Anacostia Riverkeeper advocates for and enforces laws, regulations, and policies designed to protect and restore the Anacostia River and its communities. Including:

Achieve strong stormwater controls in Maryland and the District

Address the issue of toxics in the Anacostia Watershed

Ensure continued implementation of Anacostia Restoration and Protection Act of 2009

Monitor NPDES permits in the Anacostia Watershed

Ensure implementation of and compliance with the Trash TMDL
Public Awareness and Participation
Anacostia Riverkeeper works to increase awareness of issues affecting the Anacostia River among watershed residents; to increase public participation in protection and restoration efforts; and to be the public voice and advocate of the Anacostia River. Including:

Notify/Update citizens of important issues and actions to take

Develop citizen scientist program, including Get the Dirt Out

Install Low Impact Development features with citizen involvement

Build awareness of health issues from toxic substances

Conduct regular river volunteer activities
- Introduce all communities to beauty of river
Restoration
Anacostia Riverkeeper works with the federal government and our local governments, funders, partners and neighbors to implement the DC and Maryland Phase II Watershed Implementation Plans.

- To demonstrate new environmental technology
