Overall, the water quality of the Anacostia River is steadily improving thanks to tireless efforts by community organizations, governments, and volunteers. However, each section of the river only meets, or attains, Water Quality Standards 65% of the time on average - not the 100% as required by the Clean Water Act. This is why, despite improvement, the Anacostia River receives a failing grade for Water Quality Standards.
