Anacostia Riverkeeper opposes the Army’s planned public access restriction in Washington Channel

Anacostia Riverkeeper opposes the Army Corps of Engineer’s plans to create a permanent security zone in the Washington Channel next to Ft. McNair and has submitted comments to the Army Corps to that effect. This rulemaking would constitute an incremental loss of free public access to the Washington Channel and, by extension, to the lower Anacostia River. This area of the Anacostia watershed is a valuable recreational area and has the healthiest water quality for recreation in the Anacostia River, as demonstrated by monitoring results from the District Department of Energy and Environment/Anacostia Riverkeeper‘scitizen science monitoring program.
