Friday Night Fishing

Who doesn’t love a summer Friday night spent on the river? Our Friday Night Fishing program is a free, family friendly, learn-to-fish program. It takes place along the Navy Yard on the Anacostia from June to August each summer. Open to all ages. ARK, and partner Earth Conservation Corps, provide everything you need for you and your family to learn how to fish in a fun and educational environment.

Our 2023 season will take place Friday nights from June 23 to August 25. Fishing takes place from 5PM to 8PM at the Diamond Teague Park Recreation Dock. In 2022, we had 981 people come out for free and fun fishing on the Anacostia!

How it works

  • Anacostia Riverkeeper provides the fishing gear, safety vests, and a mini-demo on fishing, fishing safety and fun facts about the fish in the river. You bring yourself, friends and family (children are welcome) and lots of community spirit!
  • Adults need DC fishing licenses to actively fish.
  • Please wear close-toed shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
  • Bring water to drink.
