Suzy has over 25 years of experience working with environmental groups and sustainability issues. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Suzy has served on the Boards of Earth Conservation Corps and the MidAtlantic Tennis Foundation and is the founder of LEEDAdvisors. She formerly raised money for the Robert F Kennedy Center on Human Rights.
Riverkeeper
Our Riverkeeper, Trey, leads our advocacy and outreach work to restore and connect people to the Anacostia River. He heads programs including Anacostia River Explorer boat tours and Friday Night Fishing. He has been at ARK for over 12 years and is a Licensed Mariner (USCG 100 GT for inland waters). He serves as DC Vice-Chair of the Anacostia Watershed Community Advisory Committee and serves on Mayor Bowser's Leadership Council for a Cleaner Anacostia River.
Watershed Programs Director
Maureen works as our Director of Programs across the watershed in DC and Maryland. She leads our grant management, volunteer programs, educational efforts, and community engagement. Before joining ARK, Maureen earned her M.S. in wildlife sciences and worked for eight years as a middle school science teacher in DC Public Schools.
Kato works with our water quality and cleanup volunteers to collect quantifiable data and create program reports for the public. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County she has a background in quantitative ecology and marine biology. She is passionate about science communication, citizen science, and environmental justice.
Events and Member Coordinator
Kyra plans public-facing events to get people out on the Anacostia River. She has a master's degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where her research focused on community-engaged environmental justice. She is passionate about helping people build meaningful connections with the outdoors right in their own communities.
Community Engagement Associate
Samihah supports community engagement activities, water quality sampling, boat tours, and social media. She graduated from Howard Community College with her Associate's in Social Sciences and is passionate about incorporating her knowledge of psychology with her love for the environment!
Outreach Associate
Calvin attends community outreach events to help educate and engage the public on watershed issues. Calvin is currently a student at the University of Maryland, where he is pursuing his undergraduate degree in Public Policy. He also helps to analyze water quality samples and data during the monitoring season.
Outreach Intern
Isabel assists with outreach efforts to represent Anacostia Riverkeeper online and at community events. She also helps collect water quality samples and data. Isabel is currently a student at the University of Maryland, where she is pursuing her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science and Policy. She is passionate about influencing policy to address environmental disparities and building a fair and inclusive future.
Resource Development Advisor
As our Resource Development Advisor, Jay serves as our link to policy decision makers in Washington, DC at both the local and federal governmental levels. A graduate of Georgetown University and a decades long resident of Capitol Hill, he also provides resource development services to support ARK's mission to protect and preserve the Anacostia River. Jay has also been a dedicated volunteer with ARK as a water quality monitor and boat tour captain.

Her expertise is in environmental performance and advocacy, sustainable planning, green building, and LEED Existing Buildings (LEED EB) certification, as well as project management and strategic planning. Suzy has over 25 years experience working with environmental groups and with sustainability issues. Judson “Jud” Hill, Treasurer, is a private equity and investment banking executive in the water sector who co-founded an investment firm titled Ecological Service Partners. His investment-banking activities include water technology/services and water utilities. Mr. Hill also has 15 years of operational management experience including designing, building and operating wastewater reclamation facilities for both municipal and industrial applications, as well as numerous product launches in ozonation, ultraviolet disinfection, and desalination.

Tommy Wells is former two-term Director of the DC Department of Energy and the Environment, where he spearheaded initiatives to enhance sustainability, reduce carbon emissions, combat the effects of climate change, and promote equitable access to the Anacostia River. Wells, a long time Capitol Hill resident, is also a former Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner, school board member, and two-term Councilmember representing Ward 6.

Jordan Maitland is an Executive at Hakluyt and Company in the Washington, DC office. He advises decision makers at Fortune 500 companies and leading private equity firms on the opportunities and risks facing their businesses. Prior to Hakluyt, he lived in Indianapolis, IN and worked at Eli Lilly and Company in a variety of public policy roles focused on drug development, access, and reimbursement-related policy issues. He has a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.

Zandra Chestnut has been a resident of Ward 7 in Washington, DC for fifty-three years. She retired from the federal government in 2017, after 40 years of service. She promotes environmental stewardship by volunteering with community-based organizations that focus on the environment and respecting Mother- Earth. Working with the Anacostia Riverkeeper, Zandra performs weekly water monitoring of the Watts Branch of the Anacostia River.

Ethan Markman is Vice President of Acquisitions at a Washington D.C. based real estate private equity firm. As a D.C. resident currently living in the Capitol Riverfront district, Mr. Markman is a strong supporter of the Anacostia Riverkeeper mission and enjoys spending time on the water and running by the river.

Pete is a forty year resident of the District, and with his wife Barb has raised three kids who were educated in the DC public school system. I am a passionate outdoors person who bikes everywhere and has been a kayaker and canoeist for my entire adult life. Improving the water quality, recreational useability, and public support for waterways in the DMV is a top priority for me. The restoration of the Anacostia River, along with the improvement of wetland areas throughout the watershed, must become a generational goal for all conservation minded Washingtonians and Marylanders. My objectives for the Board include volunteer support, financial commitment, and management input if and where needed.

A Human Rights advocate for over 40 years, Mrs. Kennedy is Founder and current Board member of The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Foundation, today the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights. The organization is a nonprofit charitable organization that works to realize Robert F. Kennedy’s dream of a peaceful and just world. For over 15 years, she has also been a driving environmental force in Washington, DC, advocating for the protection and improvement of the Anacostia River and its environment.
